Sunday Shorts // Never Weaken

One more Sunday, one more short.

This one is a bit longer than the previous ones, but absolutely worth the half hour.

Here's Harold Lloyd in Never Weaken.

In A Galaxy, Far, Far Away....

Lucky Draw is quite a  popular game (or activity, call it what you want) here in Macau. It's done in parties, big dinners, shops, hotels, restaurants, casinos and I have a feeling that you might even find Lucky Draws in weddings around here...

It's practically part of the culture.

Anyway, last Summer, at a 4th of July barbecue event, I won a one night stay in a big casino-hotel in the city. I guess luck runs in the family, as my mom also won that same night. C'est cool!

Time passed, I went back to Europe for the Summer, than moved back to Beijing, and I only remembered that I had this coupon two days before its expiry date.

Luckily, they let us move the date forward and we ended up going there yesterday.

We got to the check-in counter, and guess what. Luck hadn't run out yet. We were upgraded to a SUITE! A high roller gambler suite! How sweet!!! (Get it? Hmm..)

The room was gigantic and equipped with a closet room, a living room, a bedroom, two bathrooms and a free minibar. Oh! And a sort of pant pressing machine.

We got there at around 7pm with plans for going out for dinner. With all this, we decided to stay in for a while and have a little aperitif before heading to a restaurant. Wouldn't you?

So here's our suite:

It took us forever to chose a restaurant to go to. The options were endless.
However, even with all the different type of cuisines we had to choose from, we decided to remain very basic and went to an italian restaurant instead. Pizza and pasta rarely disappoint.

We ended the night with a little trip to a whisky bar next door. The Macallan.
He ordered an old fashioned whisky, she ordered a gin and tonic. Some things never change.

Here are the highlights of the evening.

Sunday Shorts // by Samuel Benchetrit for YSL

A short film for Yves Saint Laurent's 2010 Spring Summer Collection and no doubt one of my favourites.

Oscar 2014 Marathon // Blue Jasmine

The third film in the series, Blue Jasmine, tells the story of Jasmine (Cate Blanchett) after her fall from glory as a New York Socialite, as her husband is imprisoned for financial fraud. She packs her bags and moves, along with her Louis Vuitton luggage, to San Francisco to live with her estranged sister, who leads a life completely opposite of what Jasmine was used to.

Jasmine tries to pick her life up again as gracefully as she can, despite her weighing past and her nervous breakdowns.

Meanwhile, Woody Allen shifts between the hard present times, and her glorious and superficial past, slowly depicting her fall from glory as well as her attempt to get back on her feet.

The story is cruel. As you attentively watch the sisters' lives unravel, you understand that there is a big chance that neither of them will get their happy ending. In a way, it brings forth a deeper element in the film, which is that of reality. You realize that these women could just as well be people you come across with in your life.

Cate Blanchett is exceptional in this film. In my opinion, she is the film. Watching her so carefully unravel the deep psychological issues of the character, while still fighting to retain her sanity is intoxicating.

Window Obession

I think I might have a tiny little thing for cute, old windows.
