1.
For those impossible nights, where all you want to do is SLEEP, but your mind decides to go into intense thinking mode, I introduce to you the  “4-7-8” breathing trick.

2.
Even though everyone says they hate small talk, it seems as though it's the most common  communication topic. That being said: if you can't avoid it, learn how to master it.

3.
(Sounds so poetic, but it's in fact quite straightforward.)

4.
Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder? You betcha. This is how much our conception of beauty has changed in the last 100 years.

5.
I admire and envy the person who had this hilarious idea.

Girl Reads // How to be a Parisian

This week my sweet other half gave me a book he quickly leaved through in a bookstore, before firmly deciding that it represented most of my feminine beliefs and habits.

A guide filled with french wisdom and humour on how to be a strong woman, without ever losing your femininity (or your snobbism, for that matter), including advice such as How to Make Him Think You Have a Lover and How to Own Your Bad Habits.

A few of the golden advice:

¬ Don’t be afraid of aging.

¬ Wear a black bra under your white blouse, like two notes on a sheet of music.

¬ One must live with the opposite sex, not against them. Except when making love.

¬ Go to the theatre, to museums, and to concerts as often as possible: it gives you a healthy glow.

¬ Be aware of your qualities and your faults. Cultivate them in private but don’t obsess.

¬ Take a deep breath, and keep it simple.

¬ Never give too much away. When it comes to revealing herself, she follow’s one golden rule: less is definitely more.

¬ Leave a party when it’s in full swing. (Even your own)

¬ Solitude can be a luxury.

¬ Don’t follow trends.

¬ Be friends with people of different generations. (Both young and old, but especially the old.)

¬ Embrace your inner snob!

The Happiness of Being Sad

Last week I had a serious case of the blues.

It happens from time to time.

I heard it could have something to do with the moon.

For no apparent reason a sudden wave of melancholy fills my days,  inviting my thoughts to take me away from the world for moments at a time.

Nonetheless, I like these days.

I read somewhere that melancholy, out of all the "sad" states of mind,  is unique in its form.

It is not a debilitating mood.

On the contrary. Melancholy has everything to do with the pleasure of being lost in thought, in complete contemplation of the things around us, the things we don't understand, the things we love, the things we miss.

We sometimes even long for, and desire to indulge in this absorbing self-reflection.

“Melancholy is the happiness of being sad.”
― Victor Hugo

Enough said: I wish you a melancholic day.
